Jor wrapped his own fingers tighter around Wick's as she pulled him from the Commons. With a grateful smirk, he whispered back. "Yeah, who knows, I bet they bring Angel back up here too..." His voice rang with superior irony as he laughed a little, nudging her. "So where are you taking me now, Spark?" |

Wick matched his grin. "The Game Arena, my pet. I think you just might like it." His fingers wrapped tightly around hers made her more aware of the ring on her fingers, and her grin widened into a smile. "Come on, now. Quite day-dreaming about Dante and let's go." The sting of his ancient history with Dante had much diminished in the intervening years they'd spent together, and she was bold enough to tease him with it, every now and then. Leading the way, she stopped and palmed open the door to the Arena and drew him inside. |

Castor led Helen through the hallways towards the mess. "It's really cool the way they have it set up. Each Quad's got sixteen soldiers, right? And one commander. Well, they have it set up so there's 34 pods in each SimRoom, so two Quads and their commanders can be in it at once. Out of each Quad, fourteen are regular fighter types, like the ones we flew in the simulator today." He grinned back at her, remembering what fun they'd had. "There's another pod that's a supply ship. That usually goes to a tactical weapons major; they're pretty slow, but they've got good armament. Whoever's in it has to be really good at shooting down stuff before it gets to them." "There's the commander's ship, and that's pretty much like the fighter, just a little bigger and better armored. And then there's the Scout. Scouts have almost no armor, and really light guns, and go really fast. They're also the only ships with sensors to detect the other ships at a distance. Scout Pilots have to be the best, and believe me, pilot, you fit the bill." He smiled at her and palmed open the Mess Hall door, waved her through. |

Sauntering through the corridors with Sergei shuffling along beside him, Nicolai smiled cockily at a few passing friends, quick nods of greeting to a group of Griffin soldiers. "Hmm, Sergei, wonderin' where she might be..." Nic trailed off at the sight of Dante storming angrily toward him, her eyes as cold as her temper was hot right now. With a disarming grin, he blocked her way, a little look of concern in his blue eyes. "Whoa Anjélice, is everything okay? Slow down there, settle down, what's wrong?" She huffed and ignored him, managing a curt nod at Sergei. "Ho, Sergei," she said shortly before pushing Nic out of the way. "Move it, Nico, you can ask me later. Later Serg." With that she was off again, stalking away, and Nic turned to his brother with a shrug. |

Helen left the cell, eager to be moving around again. She's spent too much time durring her leave just sitting around... They were about halfway to the Game arena when she felt her stomach tighten. She hadn't worried about it earlier, the only thing that she had worried about was getting there on time and not oversleeping...but that hadn't been an issue. She remembered Nicolai... was he really that good?... and was she really good enough to beat him? She remembered Sasha's gaze when she'd met him the first time... God, what would he do to her if she bombed? He didn't like her as it was... "So what exactly am i going to be doing this morning in the sims? Just fly around or what?" |

Castor walked and talked, his excitement showing in his voice. "You'll both be flying Scouts. They're smaller and lighter than the ships you flew yesterday, and have smaller guns. You'll be able to move faster, though. The object is to get as much of the area scanned as possible without getting blown up. You'll have different objectives, and they'll get harder as you progress." He grinned at her. "You're going to do great, I promise. It's right up your alley." He gave her hand a squeeze as they stepped into the Game Arena. |

With arrogant stealth Nicolai had fallen back, caught sight of Wick and followed her as she stalked silently through the corridors. Running ahead down another side-hall, he managed to cut her off, standing in the center of the hallway as she approached. "Hey there, beautiful, long time no see, eh?" Wick gave him a disgusted look, but there was something in her eyes that made Nicolai watch her in concern. Walking closer, he gave her a half-hearted smile, trying to look in those glacier blue eyes. "You okay, Wick?" |

Wick finally met his eyes. A small part of her was actually pleased when his half-hearted smile faltered a little more. "No, Nicolai. I'm not." She wasn't in the mood to play games with him. She had to get to the security closets and arm herself before Ang...before Asmodeus discovered that Jor was no longer with her. |

"I'm sorry to hear that, darlin.' Anything I can do for you?" Wick just shrugged at him, and started to move to pass when Nicolai grabbed her arm, pulling her back. She glanced up at him, a frown on her face, but with a grin he leaned down and kissed her before she could twist away. Her eyes widened, and Nicolai let her go with a smile, patting her cheek lightly before turning away and starting down the corridor. "Hope you feel better, Wick. See you around, maybe dinner, eh?" Nic sauntered away, but not before he caught sight of Jor leaning in a doorway nearby. The boy shot Wick an angry look, his face dark and forbidding, before turning and stalking rapidly down another hallway. Grinning to himself, Nic continued on his way to class. |

Wick's heart froze within her when she saw Jor glaring at her as Nicolai sauntered away. The look of betrayal in his eyes made her turn away, and when she looked back, he was gone. She turned and hurried down the corridor, her breath coming faster. Block it, block it, there's nothing you can do about it right now, just block it, we have to get to the security closet... Moving too quickly, her eyes staring only straight ahead, she didn't notice that someone else was watching her as she entered the deserted storage bay. |

Nicolai was still tearing frantically through the corridors in search of Rox or Dante... cutting corners, dodging other soldiers, darting in and out and barging into classrooms where she might be. Passersby gave him disgusted glance as he sprinted, breathless... but he had no choice. He'd been to the barracks, to all her classes, the observatory, the library, everywhere. No sign of either of them. Nicolai felt despair as he ran, until finally he rounded a corner and came in sight of Dante and Rox talking, standing in the middle of the hallway. Both girls glanced up with startled eyes as he almost ran into them, skidding to a halt and leaning a hand against the wall as he bent over, gasping, trying to regain his breath. Dante moved forward to pat him on the back, while Rox crouched in front of him, looking up into his eyes worriedly. "Nico, what's wrong... whoa dude, breath. Breath. Shhh okay, what happened?" "Dante... Asmodeus, that Nathan..." Nicolai gulped and coughed, Dante rubbing his shoulders as she looked to Rox with apprehension. Her friend shook her head, lifting Nicolai's head and patting his cheek. "What about Nathan, Nico? Is he after Dante?" He managed to shake his head in negation, sinking to his knees to sit on the floor, leaning against the wall. Rox crawled nearer, Dante seating herself beside him, and with a final cough he spoke, voice hoarse. "No, no... I was goin' through the halls, and smelled smoke... it was coming from the storage bay, and I found Wick inside, someone set her arm on fire and broke her ankle and dislocated her shoulder and..." "Whoa, wait a sec. Wick? What does this have to do with Nathan?" Dante shook Nicolai on the shoulder, too anxious to wait, but he ignored her and continued. "I took her to the infirmary, and talked to the doc... then she woke up, and he asked who did it, and she said... she said Mode." Rox grabbed for Dante as she stood suddenly, her eyes hardened to quicksilver as she shot Rox and Nicolai an icy glance. "Dante, wait, you don't know what happened, don't do anything rash..." "I'm not going to do anything rash. I'm merely going to try to talk to him." The cold steel in her voice caused Nicolai to blink in surprise as he pushed himself standing, Rox coming up next to him. "Anjélice, listen to me! He attacked you before... and we don't know why he went after Wick today, I mean, just think, he could be planning something really terrible..." Rox elbowed Nicolai sharply in the ribs, glaring at him angrily. "Shut the fuck up, Nico. Dante, look, you'll be safer with us, I mean, he might not even be in custody yet, just let us go with you." "No, Rox. I'll be fine, I'm sure the MP's have him. I'll find where they're holding him. And I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself." Dante shook the fiery curls from her eyes, face set resolutely, an almost frightening calm settled over her poise. Rox dropped the argument, backing up against Nicolai as Dante nodded to them and pushed past, stalking silently down the hallway, until she finally disappeared from view. Nicolai leaned closer to Rox. "Should we follow her? I mean, Wick is bad. I thought she was gonna... die, it's that bad. We know what he did to her last time..." She grabbed his hand and began to pull him down the corridor. "We'll get Mitch, and Lem, and Mik if we can find her. They should all be back in the barracks. We both saw his records, he's dangerous, we need more people. Then we'll go find Dante again... I'm sure she'll be fine, they must have him under custody by now, right?" "Don't worry, I'm sure they do, I told the doc and he must have called it in to the MPs." Nic increased his pace as best he could, still reassuring Rox as they began to jog back toward the barracks, her fingers tight in his. "And then we'll see what we can do..." |

Mode felt strange as Kat tugged him through the hallways, relieved and confused and a little frustrated. He was relieved that she was smiling at him now, a strange fire dancing in those cat eyes when she looked at him. It made him want to shiver and hold her close and hit her all at the same time, and that confused him. He wanted to do it again, and he knew he couldn't, and that frustrated him. Still, he let her lead him with a smirk on his lips. She was his now, and that's what meant something, not the details. You really think it's that simple? Nothing is that simple. They walked on. |

He was wearing an odd smirk as she traipsed around through the corridors, her fingers still twisted in his, pulling him around like an eager puppy yanking on its leash. It felt so... so good, just to be out and walking, secure in the knowledge that Mode was there to help defend her, and for the first time Kat felt at home. Not that she let her defenses down any; if anything, she was more wary, constantly flicking her gaze around to watch all the new areas, constantly glancing behind them to make sure they weren't being followed, all the completely normal and ingrained survival behaviors she carried. But having his hand in hers, at least, ensured that she wouldn't be hassled. And Kat was not in the mood to be trifled with, as she felt the cool band of Jax's, now Mode's, ring against her fingers. They were wandering aimlessly, she leading him wherever the mood struck her. He just followed docilely, eyes trained on the back of her head as her coppery curls bounced while she sauntered about. Everything was new, exciting, especially as they rounded another corner and came in sight of a gated door. Intrigued, she dropped Mode's hand and skipped toward it, tilting her head to read the inscription on the palm pad. "Null-G Room A." Glancing toward Mode, a smile flashing across her face, Kat hopped a little. "Oooh Mode, a battle room? Want to fly? I bet we can get in." Placing her hand against the lockpad, she twisted her palm slightly, and the door slowly slid open to reveal a half-lit, dim room with tiny faraway lights dotted around the walls. Turning to face him, she backed up until only her toes were on the dooredge, and with a grin, Kat dropped herself into the space. |

Mode smiled a little at her obvious ploy, but led her down the hallway. He wasn't fooled, and she knew it. "Let's get a better look at this Game Arena, shall we?" He smiled back at her and tugged her along just a little too fast for her to walk comfortably until they approached the Commons, where he finally allowed her to slow down and come to a stop as he surveyed the room for signs of Jor. |

The corridor was pitch-black, completely silent and deserted as Mode tugged her away from the safety of the barracks into this dark unknown. Her pupils dilated wildly as they tried to compensate for the lack of light, and she felt the same wary, hunting instinct she always felt when dusk had fallen and demons were about. Reminded of the long, almost endless nights at the Institute, when she'd both stalked and been chased herself, Kat's fingers tightened around Mode's, her fingernails sharp in the palm of his hand as she froze, retreating to press her back against a corner and start eyeing everything carefully. Shadows fell, concealing everything, and her heart pounded loudly as her lips drew back into a predatory grimace and her canines shone in the dark. "Mode..." she hissed almost silently. |

Mode let her pull him back before he pressed her to the wall, filling her vision and shutting out many of the shadows behind him. He tilted her face up and held it to kiss her roughly before sliding his lips away from hers, to her ear. "Relax, Katera. This is Command School. We're the monsters now, remember?" He smiled, breathing a soft chuckle into her ear before he kissed her throat and then pulled back a little, waiting for her to come of her own accord. He didn't always understand his Kitten, but he knew what she liked. And she liked to hunt. |

She smirked up at him, canines sharp and eyes narrowed in delight as she tapped her fingernails against his chest and leaned up to purr back in his ear. "I was always the monster, darling..." A sound startled her, and with a quick swing she pressed her arm across his torso and shoved him to the wall. Placing a warning finger on her lips, Kat motioned for him to stay in place as she slid along the corridor, slinking into a dark corner and crouching. Another quick duck and roll, and she was already a good fifteen feet down the hallway from Mode, hidden in the shadows as a figure approached. It was just a boy, a soldier who was creeping along guiltily in the dark, and with a sudden flash of predatory lust in her eyes, Kat slipped from her hiding spot and maneuvered to accidentally run into the other boy. She managed a startled look, green-gold eyes wide with surprise as the soldier, over his initial shock, smirked down at her, gaze running over her half-clothed body. Biting her lip playfully, she fluttered her eyelashes up at him, slowly backing up as he began to advance upon her. With adrenaline rushing and the gleam of the hunt in her eyes, Kat licked her canines in anticipation, purring huskily at the boy with feigned tentativeness. "Uh, hi, I thought..." |

He watched her push him against the wall with a little amusement. Creatures like they were didn't have any need to hide...but it felt right. He watched her slink away down the corridor, her lithe figure moving through the dark until only her profile was visible. He crept quietly after her. He didn't see the boy until she bumped into him, and he grinned, pleased. Kat was always adept at finding toys. The way this boy ran his eyes over her torso made him flick his gaze to Kat eagerly, wanting to see her reprisal. "Uh, hi, I thought..." her innocent little voice was almost inaudible as she pretended to be flustered. The boy smirked, a hand moving forward to grip her arm. "You really outta be careful round here, girl. What are you doing up so late?" Mode looked at him more carefully. The boy had a small grey bag with him, and didn't look as frightened at finding another student out here after hours as he should be. |

Smiling shyly up through the stray curls that hung into her shining eyes, Kat answered quietly, a tinge of nervous anxiety in her tone. "I... I couldn't sleep. I won't get in trouble, will I? You... you won't tell on me?" The boy's grip on her arm tightened as he grinned down at her, and she tilted her head to the side in innocent confusion. The naive little green girl, caught after hours by the big veteran boy. Oooh, this was fun. He pulled her closer to him, and Kat let him wrap an arm around her waist as he leaned closer. "What do I get if I don't tell?" Her short exhalation of flustered disbelief fluttered across the boy's skin, and he smirked again as she stood on tiptoes to whisper in his ear. Brushing her lips across his cheek, she whispered with sudden coldness in her voice, at the same moment she brought her knee up into his stomach with violent strength. "I won't kill you..." The boy staggered back, the wind knocked from him, and Kat sauntered closely, undulating her hips as she grinned that shark-like smile that was her trademark. Icy serpentine eyes locked with his own brown eyes, she winked as she planted and whirled, landing a roundhouse kick to the side of his head with her bare foot. It made only a muffled thump as he was thrown to the side, falling to the ground painfully, and biting her lower lip to keep from laughing out loud, Kat tossed the curls over her shoulders and looked back to smile at Mode. "Join the fun, my love." |

Mode slid out from behind the wall and into the other corridor, coiling an arm around Kat's waist as he watched the boy struggling to his feet. "My Kitten," he whispered in her ear, "is this little boy bothering you?" The clear reflection in Kat's glimmering green-gold eyes told him when the boy was about to hit him, and he smashed his elbow into the boy's face. The cocky vet fell back, blood falling over his lips and down his chin as he choked. His bag fell to the ground and he staggered as Mode rammed his fist into the boy's stomach and then caught him under the chin with an uppercut. The vet went down, pooling blood. Not even winded, Mode crouched and grabbed the vet by the throat, lifting him easily and throwing him at Kat's feet. There was a loud thump as his head hit the floor, but his eyes still fluttered weakly. |

last updated at Apr 11, 2001 12:24 a.m. (1 times) Mode's appearance and interference caused her to grin widely at him before she looked down at the bloodied boy he finally deposited at her feet. The vet was struggling to keep his eyes open, nose flowing steadily as his unfocused eyes moved to stare up at her with confusion. A low, husky purr escaped her throat as she rolled him over onto his back with her heel, then kneeled beside him."What's in the bag, Mode?" Not bothering to glance back, Kat sat squarely on the boys hips, unzipping and divesting him of his uniform jacket while he watched her dazedly. With deft, practiced movements, she tied his wrists together securely before sliding down and knotting his boot laces together. Bound now at hand and ankle, the boy struggled weakly as she leaned over to plant a kiss on his forehead before backhanding him across the face, knocking him unconscious. Standing then in a single, graceful twist, Kat stalked back over to Mode's side as he began to unzip the bag. "We hunt more, my love? This one didn't play very much with me..." a little pout pushed her lower lip out, and with a twinkle in her emerald eyes, Kat nudged Mode with her foot. "Play?" |

Unzipping the bag, Mode pulled out something he recognized easily. Kat would too. The Institute had been full of these, hidden cameras to keep an eye on the inmates. Not that their response time allowed for them to be very effective...he doubted most of them were even monitored regularly. She nudged him with her boot, and he held the camera up, using the trailing sleeve of the boy's jacket to handle it. "Off to someplace he shouldn't be with contraband equipment." Mode clucked disapprovingly. "What's with young people these days?" Standing fluidly, he dumped the camera onto the insensible vet's stomach and nudged Kat's shoulder with his fingertips, a little roughly. "You want to play, Kitten?" he said with a cold smirk. |

"Tsk tsk, I'm gonna hafta watch myself in the showers from now on..." she trailed off as Mode poked her shoulder roughly. "You want to play, Kitten?" She smirked back, moving away slowly as she dropped into a crouch, with all the look of a cat about to pounce. Of course she wanted to play... this boy had just been a warmup, and she hadn't had the opportunity for a good hunt in too long. Beginning to circle him silently, glowing eyes half obscured by her curls, Kat flicked her nails at Mode with an almost inaudible purr of acknowledgement. "Do you, Mode?" |

A slow, wicked smile spread across his lips as he watched her circle. He didn't want to hurt her too badly, but it might be fun. He'd never considered a sparring partner. The Institute had given him plenty of opportunity to hone his skills in a more...realistic setting. Well...she had asked. It would be rude not to answer. "With you, Katera? I wouldn't want to break you, sweetness." His eyes gleamed as he looked her over, her body tensed, luminescent eyes drawing in the faint light behind the fall of copper curls. |

Mode almost laughed. Kat was fast, faster than anyone else he'd tangled with to date. Those pretty lithe muscles under her skin were a lot stronger than they looked. He'd bruise. How delightful. He stepped into her range and they exchanged a rapid series of blows. The way her eyes seemed to cast their own light was distracting, but Mode's fighting didn't take as much concentration as moderating the strength he put behind it. Her style was just like her, wild and unpredictable and feline, little claws snagging his skin before he deflected another kick. Eventually he'd had enough of this teasing, and when she moved in again he struck her across the cheek to daze her and drew her in, his lips rough on hers, blood from one of her scratches sending a droplet like a tear down his cheek. |

She hadn't had this much fun playing since her last toy at the Institute, and when Mode stunned her enough to capture her for a rough kiss, Kat was anything but pleased. It felt too exciting and enjoyable to fight like this, and she was irritatingly reluctant to stop. Shaking her head to clear her mind, sharp eyes refocusing, she kneed Mode swiftly in the stomach and shoved him away. The surprise in his cold slate eyes as they narrowed at her just made her smile broadly, and as he stood slowly to regain his breath she lashed out with a light kick, catching him under the chin... not hard enough to hurt him badly, but just enough so that his gaze swirled smoke as he hissed in pain. Kat giggled then, fluttering her eyelashes at him with coy delight, and seeing him recovering so quickly, she spun on her heels and took off sprinting down the corridor. As she ran, she could hear Mode gaining on her... even her lithe speed was no match for his. Pumping her arms, feet pattering softly against the floor, she risked a look back over her shoulder, copper curls flying behind her as she caught his gaze and tried to put on an extra burst of speed. For the first time she stopped being the predator and let herself enjoy being his prey, and with a tiny tinkle of laughter, she rounded another corner and ran flat out, hoping he'd catch her, wishing he wouldn't. |

Her attack caught him by surprise, but she darted away too quickly for him to retaliate immediately, copper curls bouncing on her shoulders as she sped away. She wanted to be caught. His eyes narrowed as he chased her. She should know better than to incite him...but there was a vicious joy to this pattern that tugged at the darker part of soul. He gained on her easily, and making a final leap he tangled his hand in those pretty copper curls and brought her to an excrutiating halt, dragging her down to the floor of the hall, pinning her there and hitting her again, bruising her other cheek. He wrapped the fingers of his free hand around her throat and squeezed warningly, and those feline eyes widened as he smirked down at her. |

She stopped midflight as he pulled on her curls, and she hissed loudly when she was dragged to the floor, pinned and hit hard across the face. Mode dug his fingers into her throat, smirking down at her, and her angry green-gold eyes widened as she suddenly remembered the last time she'd found herself like this. It's not him, goddamnit, stop thinking it's him... he's buried in those woods, in that grave you dug your own fucking self. It's not Jax... "Let go of me, Ja... Mode. Now." She caught herself at the last moment, face paling but underlit with an odd flush that angered her. Raging that she'd been caught, even when she'd half-heartedly wanted to be, Kat twisted sinuously under Mode's grip, growling as his fingers tightened into her neck and she could only manage a choked intake of raspy breath. Trapped again... with a snarl she arched her back and lashed out, catching Mode across the cheek with her own claws. "Get... off... of me!" |

The force of her taloned swipe turned his head to the side, and he slowly turned back to look at her, his smile a little wider. Her little slip hadn't escaped him. What an interesting boy this Jax must have been. No wonder she'd killed him. He didn't release her, but pulled her off the floor by the throat, enough to bring her in for a kiss. She bit at him, and he kissed her cheek instead, the smooth scar against his lips, and slid back to her ear as he trapped one of her hands behind her back with his free one. "Now I want to play, Kitten," he said teasingly as he kissed her collarbone, along the edge of her undershirt. |

last updated at Apr 11, 2001 12:40 p.m. (2 times) It was no use... Mode had her hips pinned securely beneath him, her throat in one of his hands, her arm twisted behind her back as he leaned to kiss at her collarbone. Kat struggled for a moment before deciding the effort was useless and painful. Time to change tactics, or she'd never escape."I don't wanna play, Mode..." she panted softly as his fingers tightened. Wide-eyed and feigned fearful, Kat tried to pull away from his grasp gently, the bruises already blooming purple under the tanned skin of her face. He kissed her cheek again, right on the scar Jax had drawn with his dagger, and she turned her head away from Mode then, hiding behind her veil of curls. Just let me go, please... I don't want to have to fight anymore, and I refuse to beg to you... don't hasten your death any more than it needs to be, my love. At that thought she shifted to smirk up at him, sharp canines resting against her lower lip as her eyes gleamed with the mysterious sharp shine of one who hunts and had found their prey. "Asmodeus..." |

Something in her blossoming, hungry smile made him shiver, but he released her even as his eyes narrowed, letting her arm go as he lifted her for a long, intense kiss as he walked back towards the barracks. Her request, voiced in the small uncertain voice he identified with sincere instead of her playful little girl voice made him cringe with self-hatred for hurting her, but he buried it in his desire and held her close as the door slid open. |

Wick was moving slowly down the hallway, favoring her ankle, when booted footsteps reached her ears. This in itself was not out of the ordinary, in a school full of booted students...but she knew that cadence, the way the boots sounded muffled, even on the tile. She'd know that pattern until the day she died. She'd heard that sound just before the lights came on in the Storage Bay and shown her her very own personal demon. Mode. And she'd been afraid of not getting a chance to see him today. She cringed behind some storage crates. There was no place else for her to hide, and he would undoubtedly see her when he passed...it was futile, and she knew it, but she had to try. The footsteps grew closer, closer yet...and then paused. She listened to them pause, and then they began again, but it was a different echo. He was going into one of the BattleSim rooms. Something he'd seen or heard had drawn him in and saved her. She caught her breath and rose slowly, painfully. She should go back to her barracks now, while he was distracted...but she had a chance now to do some of the study she required, and that took precedence. Limping silently, she entered the BattleSim room and concealed herself in one of the tinted pods. |

Asmodeus was a little put out, but he didn't mind a chase. Dante hadn't been in her quarters. Neither had anyone else. She had been equally absent in the mess hall, the Library, the Game Arena, the Commons, and every other place he'd looked. He'd even looked into the BattleRoom, though it had given him bittersweet flashbacks of flying with Kat yesterday. That left the storage areas, the laundry, the engineering bay...and the showers. He was nearly there when a distant harsh laugh caught his attention. He reversed the few steps necessary and looked at the door to the BattleSim room he'd just passed. The door opened at his touch. Lights flickered on a single display towards the back. Curious, he turned and stepped inside. |

Don was moving down the corridor, heading for BattleSim Room D, when he heard shouts coming from behind the opposite door, leading to Room A. He listened to them only long enough to verify the female pitch before he palmed the door opened and entered. |

Dominic had just left Rox with a kiss and a promise of his return later that night, watching her saunter down the corridor away from him, before a muffled shout caught his attention. Eyebrows furrowing, he resolved to ignore it, knowing he had to report to Don and that he was already guiltily late. He'd gotten... absorbed, in their little game, and now Don would be annoyed at his tardiness. That thought was erased as a sudden pain struck him, and Dom gasped in surprise. He didn't know what was happening as he sunk to one knee, crouching on the ground as he coughed experimentally. His stomach had exploded with an odd muted flash of pain, and shaking his head to clear this thoughts, Dom forced him to stand. He hadn't felt this since... since Don had gotten into a fight one day, away from him, and he'd felt the anguish his twin had. There was something to be said for the bond between two brothers. This bond made him frightened and angry. Donovan was in trouble. The muted shouts and screams continued, and he followed their trace, the sounds becoming louder as he approached one of the BattleSim rooms. Pressing his ear against the door to verify the source, he steeled himself for battle and palmed the door open, unprepared for the sight inside as chaos reigned. |

She was not feeling like a happy little kitten anymore. Asmodeus had ruined whatever vague sensations of security and love she'd held last night after their... interlude. She cursed silently to herself for not listening to that little inner voice who always had her best interests in mind. That survivalist conscience had kept her alive for all these years; through BattleSchool, through Jax, through Charybdis. She wasn't about to abandon cold heartlessness and ruthless skill just because some man had said he loved her. And yet, that seemed to be what she was doing. Kat was feeling disjointed, out of place, and she was in desperate need for a distraction. If this were Charybdis, she'd find some unwilling target and take her rage out. Solitary was usually the result, but every blow was a balm to her psyche, every kick and punch a sort of soothing touch to her soul. She needed that feeling now, and so began to stalk the corridors with only one intent. Kat was on the hunt. The first few boys she'd passed had given her a wide birth, scared away by the predatory smirk on her lips, the intense serpentine-gold gaze of her slitted eyes. With copper curls flying and sharp canines resting on her lower lip, Kat sauntered through the hallways, rounding a corner to come in sight of another potential prey. This one was older than her by at least a few years; standing tall and with a cocky air, arrogant smile across his features as he regarded her with interest. She buried the contemptuous glare and stared at him, giving as much as she got. Surprisingly, he held his ground, indigo eyes tracing her body with a casual demeanor she found irritating. Kat had found herself a new playmate... Stopping, she turned slowly to face him, managing an innocently naughty expression as her lips twitched slightly in a smile. He grinned back at her, a wide smile that did not reach his eyes. Oooh, she snickered to herself. A fighter... "Something wrong, sweetheart? You want something?" |

last updated at Apr 14, 2001 12:40 a.m. (2 times) Dom's smile only broadened as he ran his eyes over Kat's body with an appraising air, not bothering to hide the interest that flickered in his indigo gaze. Wick had been right-- this was a fiesty one, and he felt the last of his reserve slip away as she stared intently at him with sharp green-gold eyes, pupils slitted dangerously even as a smirk flirted across her lips. She had pointed canine teeth that rested on her full lower lip, and after watching her run her tongue along them, he leaned against the wall and folded his arms across his chest nonchalantly."Do I want something? Only..." he let his eyes speak for him, running over her again, and her answering feline grin excited him. Like Roxy, but with claws. This was going to be a challenge, and he wished briefly for Donovan. His brother would have enjoyed this to no end. Maybe there would be a favorable ending... "Only what?" Kat's tone was low, purring as she stalked nearer, circling him slowly as he rested, back propped on the wall. She tilted her head slightly, examining him with undisguised curiosity. Spiked hair... like Mode's, like Jax's, but so dark. And his eyes, a mesmerizing purple-blue indigo that watched her intensely. The perfect opposite of her Mode, as if this man was the negative to a black and white photograph. She was sure his soul was light in comparison to Asmodeus's midnight psyche, endless space like her own, and that thought made her saunter a little closer. The smile faded from his face as he leaned over slightly to bring his face closer to her own. "You." Her own grin just grew wider in predatory delight. What a cat indeed. Dominic could sense her playful malice rising at his positive response to her teasing, and found himself caught up in this dangerous game. Kat was no soft little girl... the death and pain promised in her gaze did not escape him. But he kept his features set with that same cocky aura, even as he grew more wary by the moment. Real smooth, Casanova... Her contempt lit, even as some measure of unwilling respect tugged at her. Eventually, all the boys and men at the Institute had learned enough not to respond to her taunts, and there were long stretches when her hunts ended in fruitless frustration. Then Mode came, providing her with companionship, and even with their tenuous alliance she'd found herself hunting less. Until they arrived here, with an unlimited source of new playmates, and Kat's instinct to stalk was reignited. Ryan was one distraction from Mode's rather erratic behavior. Maybe this one would be another. "What's your name, handsome...?" Her voice was husky as she paused a mere foot before him, eyes obscured by a few stray curls. Dom restrained the urge to brush them away like he'd done earlier with Dante... wild animals were unpredictable, and this one looked like she wasn't afraid to bite. With an extravagant little bow, he finally raised his head to stare into that serpentine gaze. "Dominic, but you may call me Dom. And you are..." "Katera, but you may call me Kat." She returned the polite gesture with a taunting air, mocking him slightly for his attempts at chivalry with a dip of her chin, curls swirling around her face in a silky red-gold cloud. Raising an eyebrow in derisive calculation, she ran her own gaze over his muscular body then, purring to herself, a deep rumble from her chest. What a toy, nothing at all like Ryan, or even Mode. He nodded again in acknowledgement. "Well, it is a pleasure to meet such a beautiful lady such as yourself, Katera..." The flash of malice that fluttered across her features briefly did not escape his notice, and with a wide grin, he grabbed her hand and lifted it to his mouth, pressing his lips lightly on top of her palm before dropping her arm. She clenched her fingers for a moment, flicking those fingernails out as if releasing claws, and smiled up at him with the most falsely innocent expression he'd ever seen on someone he knew was anything but naive. "The same goes for you, Dominic. Now... besides me, is there anything you need?" Kat was beginning to realize that, while a charmingly slick operator, this boy was not one to fight. She couldn't very well attack him now, and she tightened her fingers into fists, just itching to pounce. This toy was ruined for that sort of play. She'd have to find some unsuspecting newcomer to initimidate, like the veteran her and Mode had caught last night. Still, that didn't prepare her for his answer. "Yes, my lovely... do you have a... male companion? I can't believe that I'd be lucky enough to find you alone..." Dom was completely immersed in his role now, enjoying what was usually so difficult for him to achieve. Donovan was the outgoing charismatic twin-- he was the quiet, reserved and dignified brother. This absolute role reversal was both restraining and freeing at the same time. No wonder Don managed to get the most flirtatiously flashy girls... the style worked, and he was finding that it wasn't altogether that hard to master. This Kat appeared to be, or was pretending to, at least, fall for his deception. Mode. She had Mode. You have Asmodeus, Kat, a man who loves and hates you. You don't want to find yourself having to off all your lovers, now do you? Ryan and Mode will present enough of a problem... just tell him no, and when he pushes, give him a nice taste of your claws... Kat shook her head slightly, eyeing Dominic with sudden wariness. He shifted, muscles playing in his arms and chest, and his strength became evident as he pushed away from the wall to grab her arm gently. "Tell me I'm lucky..." Enough. She'd had just about enough. "You'll be lucky to stay alive tonight, darling. Let go of my arm, now, sweetheart, before you find out for yourself..." Her tone dropped to an icy growl as she tugged, but his grip merely tightened, fingers digging into her skin. With a nasty hiss, she pressed a fingernail into his chest, scratching him hard through the material of his uniform. But her claws were sharp enough, and a thin crimson line followed the path of her finger. "I don't need anyone else to protect me, so I'd let go right now, Dominic..." Dom dropped her arm, forcing himself not to look down at the bloody scratch she'd drawn on his chest. Her words echoed. Didn't need anyone else to protect her... no, he doubted that she did, if what he heard she'd done to Jax and Zion were true. And right now, there was little doubt in his mind about that subject. Not just beautiful, but deadly, a murderous kitten who watched him now with slit pupils and narrowed eyes. "Pardon me, Katera. I didn't mean to frighten you..." Her short snort of mirthless laughter gave him the opportunity to study her face briefly, before she caught his seeking gaze. Her left eye was bruised heavily, both cheeks purple and black, tiny dried pinpricks of blood circling her black eye. Fingermarks on her neck indicated choking, and he was unconsciously leaning closer to see what sort of necklace she was wearing when she turned her head back to glare at him, and he withdrew quickly. But irrational interest kept him talking, and he pressed her for answers, asking bluntly. "Who's that boy I've seen you with, Kat? Because, you know, I have seen you around here... one doesn't forget such a cute litle thing at yourself..." Kat eyed him warily, beginning to back away. "Just Mode, a... friend of mine." She had a sudden feeling of being caught in a trap, and her eyes shifted to serpentine again, cold and seeking as she smirked. "Why? You want your chance, flyboy?" "Perhaps, Kitten." He smiled secretly to himself at her startled reaction, eyes flashing and lips drawing back to reveal those sharp canines. "Would you like a chance too?" This game was not going well in her favor, and Kat favored a strategic retreat. This Dominic wanted to know too much; berefit of her fun, no assault or fighting possible with those one anymore, she gave him a last cold grin. "No, I'm tired of you. See you around, Dominic..." With that she turned, curls flying around her shoulders as she stalked away. Goddamnit, can't find a single toy here... so worthless, too much... The weight of the dagger strapped to her calf was a constant painful reminder, and forcing herself not to glance back in Dom's direction, Kat rounded another corner and bit her lip as she walked. Goddamn you Asmodeus, my Mode... Dom watched her leave, now grinning broadly. Such a toying girl, tugging with all the manipulative playfulness she possessed, and he found himself wanting to follow. No, he told himself sternly. Revenge on Nathan, then back to Dante... Thoughts of her fiery curls and silver eyes consoled him for his loss and gain with Kat, and running his fingers through his black spikes, Dominic sighed in appreciation and moved back toward the laundry room, to report to his allies. |

Dante was surprisingly silent and unresponsive as he dragged her into the corridor, and he didn't quite know what to say anymore. His midnight eyes softened a little as he watched her, standing impassively, staring down the hallway without once looking in his direction. She didn't even respond as he dropped his arm from around her waist, reached up a hand to touch the bruises on her pale cheek. He sighed then, pulling away to cross his arms over his chest as he moved into her field of vision, forcing her to acknowledge his presence. "Dante, look at me." Her gaze remained averted as she tilted her face away from him, and he drank in the sight of her delicate profile for a moment before continuing. Time to try a different tactic. "Anjél..." he didn't even have the time to speak her full name before she whirled on him, sudden icy hurt in her eyes as she placed her bruised hands against his chest and shoved him away strongly. |

It had taken overwhelming effort and strength of will to shove her rage down again, and even now she could feel it clawing at her, fighting to escape from her icy shell. But Dante held it in, keeping her features set resolutely, eyes cold and blank, body moving passively as Dominic tugged her into the hallway. He moved in front of her, and she turned her head to the side, not wanting to look at him, not wanting to lose control. Seeing him reminded her of seeing his brother, the two identical, and Donovan's bruises were a constant stab. He'd been hurt because of her, and she'd been hurt because of him... if only he'd stayed away, hadn't interferred. But maybe his presence, and Dominic subsequent arrival, had saved her from a worse fate. Too many if's. Dante didn't know quite what to think anymore. But then Dominic started to speak, and all she heard was "Anjél..." before her glacier calm broke. No one called her that, no one but Nathan, and hearing his name for her released her hurt. She slammed her hands against his chest, shoving him away from her as she backed away, voice cold but sounding broken to her own ears. "Don't ever call me that, ever. You don't know anything." |

"I told you that I know everything that happened, Dante... Wick told me everything. He might not have started this, but he's trying to finish it, and you just keep getting in his path. He's not going to stop hurting you. Don't fight someone who's on your own side... Nathan will pay for what he did to my brother, for what he did to you..."Dominic grabbed her arm, pushing her against the wall and pinning her there, even as she hissed and tried to twist away. "I saved you, Anjélice, before he could hurt you more. I won't let him do that again." Without closing his eyes, he leaned down to kiss her, lips rough on her own as she stopped struggling and gasped, shock and hurt confusion in her gaze as he pulled away. Her mercury eyes melted again, that same silver-violet he'd seen just moments before, and Dominic tilted his head to stare into them. But they flashed to ice again, hard and cold, and without a word she slipped from his hold and took off running down the corridor. Damnit. He hadn't thought that out, and now he might have ruined his only chance. Guilty anger struck him, and with a sigh, Dominic ran his fingers through his spikes and stepped back into the infirmary once more. |

That was a voice he wasn't quite expecting to hear. Jor turned slowly to see Nathan a few feet away, his angry steel eyes trained on him. His own eyes shifted to serpentine, lazy grace as he smirked. It was never a good idea to test his patience, especially after his little interlude with Wick. Just the thought of her bruises and burns ignited his rage, and he bounded forward to grab Nathan by the shirt collar, tugging with strong arms as he pulled the boy off-balance and dragged him into the nearby engineering bay. A little revenge for my spark... |

Her hair still a little damp, Wick limped out of the showers and headed back towards the rest of the school. She had considered the Game Arena to pass a little time, but she really wanted to get back to her desk, maybe do a little research. She hadn't yet had a chance to look up the twins, and it was always good to know who you were dealing with. The restrained fury that Donovan had displayed when his brother had told him her little saga was surprising, and entirely out of keeping with what little she knew about Creche kids. It wouldn't hurt to know more. When Dominic rounded the corridor curve ahead of her, she was a little startled with how quickly his indigo eyes settled on her. A status report. Whatever had happened between the Creche boy and Kat didn't look like it had gone in his favor. |

He was a little less reserved than he would have preferred to be, cool demeanor ruffled by his conversation with Donovan. It was becoming clearer, but slowly, too slowly for his own liking. Two weeks suddenly seemed like two days, and his steps became quicker as he paced the corridors, searching for Wick. And so he was ready, spotting her instantly the moment he passed from one hallway to the next, eyeing her calmly as she glanced up, slightly surprised. He just paused, watching her for a long moment, examining his potential partner. Their circumstances before had prevented any sort of extended study, and despite the text information he knew about her, he needed to know her. Her short black hair was sleek, wet, and he figured she had just come from the showers. That pale face was highlighted under the lights, glacier blue eyes trained with his own midnight ones, and he let a tiny smirk play the corners of his lips. "Wick." |

She caught the smirk, reflected it absently. "Heyo, Dominic." Something in his demeanor had changed. She couldn't quite pin it down. He'd been cold and reserved before, and he remained so now, but there was an intensity that hadn't been evident in their previous encounters. It made her feel a little uncomfortable, and that pushed her to banter, letting the fire flicker. "Why so serious, flicker? Kitten chasing got you down?" Her smirk widened a little as she narrowed her eyes. |

Dominic managed a disarming smile, tilting his head slightly to watch her. She was a little edgy, a hint of unease in her mocking tone, and he took a few steps closer, keeping his features decidedly neutral as her eyes narrowed. "Nah," his tone was casual, nonchalant. "Haven't seen her around. Was looking for you." He didn't wait to see her reaction, just started to walk, reaching her and placing his hand in the small of her back, gently propelling her down the corridor. He kept his pace slow, to accomodate her injured ankle, and looked down at her with a conspiratorial flicker in his eyes. "Come. Let's plan." |

Her nervousness evaporated and she grinned wickedly up at him as they walked the length of the hallway. He was so like her. He must have discovered something important that altered the lay of their plans, something that made his midnight eyes glitter with anticipation. What was it? Wick knew the rules of the game. They couldn't speak about it until they were on what he considered safe territory. He moved through the school with familiarity, and she was impressed rather than surprised when he stopped at a metal door and dialed in the code rapidly, but not too rapidly for her to catch and memorize it. The metal door slid aside and he guided her in. |

Pallas stepped out into the hall with the other girls, but she didn't continue with them. Swede turned to look at her questioningly, and she gave her a small reassuring smile. "I have some things to catch up on," she said calmly. "And a few people to talk to. I'll see you all later." She studied Dante for a moment and then turned away to walk down the hall. Dante had a friend that Nicolai was jealous of? It wasn't relevant to her current mission, but it was noteworthy nonetheless. Perhaps that was what was behind Nathan's sudden outbursts of violence, and he was taking it out on Jor and Wick because he had no other outlet. She'd taken only a handful of turns before she spotted Jor walking down the hall towards the barracks, and she wasted no time. "Jor," she hailed as she walked a little faster to catch up to him. |
