Helen walked through the open door, Castor right behind her. Turning to him she said, "So this is a good thing if I get chosen right? To be a scout right?" She could almost imagine what the definitition of a scout would be back at battle school. The smallest kid that hey threw into the BR at a battle to see where the enemy shot from. They didn't mean anything, they were thrown in because they had no better use. She didn't want that to happen to her. She looked around the mess, it looked different from the one back at battleschool. Less childish. It was already quite crowded, but there was an empty table here and there. |

Cas grinned at her. "Let me give you an example. Phoenix Quad is at the top of the charts right now. Nicolai Mishkin, their Scout, was the best pilot on this station until you showed up. It's like being commander, for pilots. The Scouts have to be the fastest and the best, cause they have to radio back information about the other fleet before they get too close." |

Helen walked through the line picking up her tray, and stared at her food. Looked a bit more appetizing than the food at battle school definitely more substantial. She slowly walked to one of the empty tables, try to ignore the muffled chatter around her. "That's the second time you mentioned this Nicolai. Am I ever going to meet him, or are we just going to suddenly meet in a Quad battle." Helen sat down in her seat, not quite sure of the praise that was giving her earlier. She'd always thought that in the sims he died off early on purpose just to make her feel better. |

Kat stopped suddenly as she entered the mess hall, her slitted eyes scanning the crowded room with apprehension. Mode paused beside her, matching bitter smirks flicking across their faces as the loud din quieted noticeably as several groups of soldiers turned and stopped talking as they noticed the white Institute armbands. "You were right, darlin,' we do get the full salute." She nudged him discreetly and stalked over to the food line, grabbing a tray and watching disdainfully as she was given her meal. Kat frowned and shot Mode a sardonic glance. "If they don't drug it, then I'm not sure I can eat it... who knows what they put in this shit." But her complaint was only half-hearted as the rest of her attention remained focused on the room. Mode had his full tray now too, and together they moved silently toward an empty table, one or two nearby soldiers shooting them nervous glances before moving further away. Kat merely fluttered her eyelashes at the remaining boys, eyes sharp as she smiled innocently at them, before kicking Mode under the table. "So many new playthings here, Mode... I don't know how I'll find the time." |

"All the soldiers eat here, unless they're commanders," said Castor as he took a seat across from her. "You'll probably see him tonight." A sudden disturbing thought came to Cas as he looked at Helen for a moment. She was growing up to be very pretty. Would Nicolai take an interest in the pilot who beat him? Cas forgot to eat and frowned down at his tray, pushing mashed potatoes around with his fork. |

"Somehow I think you'll manage, Kat," he said with a smirk as he began to eat. "You always do. The question is how fast the infirmary will be able to take them." More soldiers were drifting in now, and gradually the conversation immediately around them resumed as people got bored with watching them. Mode was surprised to see so few people he remembered...but it had been a long time. He did spot Castor, sitting across from a blonde girl who looked a little young to be here. She also looked very familiar. What was her name?? |

last updated at Mar 28, 2001 08:52 p.m. (1 times) Helen started eating the "meat" on her tray. Suddenly aware of Castors silence she looked up only to see him frowning down, not even eating, but only playing with his food. Unsure of what to do, Helen just sat there for a minute staring at him. He'd helped her feel better so many times in the past at battle school... how come she didn't know how to do the same for him? She lightly tapped his tray withher fork and bent down, her head close to the table so she could almost see his eyes hiding behind his strands of hair. "Something wrong Cas?" For a horrifying minute she thought that she'd upset him... what would she do if Castor was mad at her? He was the only person she knew here... her only friend.. |

With Swede and Rox flanking her sides, Dante stalked into the mess hall, the three of them making their way toward the food line. Nic and Sergei were already there, and grabbing trays, they all got their plates and headed en masse towards a far table. Sliding into the seat beside Dante, Rox nudged her friend discreetly with a curt nod toward Nathan and Kat seated nearby. Swede wasn't quite so discreet as she glared openly toward the pair, her turquoise narrowing. "Look, dat baztard and heez gurlfreend are alreedy here... vat zay yoo, Roxxy, vee ztart a food fite?" Nicolai grinned at her words and proceeded to pick up his pudding. "Yeah, who are we aiming for? That white spiked guy over there? I think I have good enough aim to catch him right in the..." "Shut up and stop it!" Dante kicked Nic in the shin and elbowed Swede hard. "We're not starting a food fight, geez, you're all terrible. What did I tell you two earlier? No trouble." She shot Rox and Swede a warning glance, and although they grinned innocently at her, their plates were set back and they began to eat again. "That's what I thought, you bitches. Shit. Remember last time we had a rumble in here, anyway? Mitch stood up to yell and someone knocked an entire plate of spaghetti right in his face! Haha, five demerit points for that kid, damn... y'all remember who was the one to throw it?" Everyone except Sergei shifted to stare at Nicolai, who feigned naivety. "Wasn't me, some other Mishkin. I don't know what you're talking about... besides, it was Rox who started it, she hit the Hydra commander in the back of the head with her plate." Rox shoved Nicolai hard, and he fell against Sergei with a laugh. "I did not! Stupid scout liar, Nico, think you fly so hot. You weren't laughing when I smeared pie in your hair!" Dante sighed inwardly as her friends continued the banter, and her eyes wandered unwillingly toward where Nathan and Kat sat silent. Her gaze hardened as the girl glanced up, and she forced herself to look away. Eight years in the Institute... and now with Nathan. No, Asmodeus. She grimaced slightly. Fallen angel, the spirit of wrath.... |

He looked into her brown eyes, a serious look on his face. "Look, Nicolai is a really great pilot. But he's not always that great a guy. He's not violent or anything...but don't let him get to you." He softened a little, and smiled. "He just thinks he's the best pilot here cause he hasn't met you yet. Once you bring him down to size he'll be easier to get along with." |

Helen wasn't sure what to make of Castor's sudden warnings. She had no idea who the guy was... she turned a little as some soldiers walked in .... and actually recognized them. "Hey Cas, I didn't know that the commander and Swede were here... well I should have expected that they'd be sent here, but well, should we go say hi?" |

Cas grinned at her enthusiasm. "Sure, go ahead. Dante and I came up in the same boat. I'm sure she'd like to talk to you." He paused, then decided there was no help for it. "The guy sitting next to Sergei is Nicolai. Sergei's big brother. Talk about family differences, huh?" |

Helen looked over at the kid that Castor was talking about... Sergei's brother? She didn't see the resemblence. "Come on Cas, you don't expect me to go alone do you. It's not like you're actually eating that food or anything." She grabbed his arm and pulled him up, taking him along with her. She approached the group, a little unsure if they would recognize her, but she felt it was worth a try. "Comman- Dante, Swede, Sergei, Hi! Long time no see." She decided that it wasn't one of the most intelligent things to say, but it was the first thing that came out of her mouth. And standing there for the second time since she arrived she remembered how young she actually was... damn them for graduating her early... she'd probably never hear the end of it from most of the other people on the station. |

Kat giggled and smiled broadly at Mode. "Oh, you make it sound like it's a bad thing, Mode. I don't mean to hurt anyone... I just like to play." She raised an eyebrow at him, a little intrigued by his sudden interest in a young pair seated nearby. "More people you remember from the good ol' days, hmm? This seems to be quite a reunion for you, neh?" Suddenly an older soldier walked by, flashing her a dirty look. Kat started to rise to confront him, her green eyes maliciously sharp, but thought better of it and merely smirked angrily at the boy. Tugging at Mode's sleeve, she stood and lowered her head slightly to whisper to him. "I wanna leave, now. Come with?" |

Surprised to see two of her former soldiers, Dante smiled up at Helen and Castor, nudging Swede. "Hey, you two, it's great to see you again! Rox, Nico, this is Helen and Castor, two of my soldiers back from Fox. Be polite now, you two, and say hello." "Hi, Heelen, Caztor, long time, neh?" Swede grinned just as Nic stood smoothly, a welcoming smirk on his face. "Ahh, Helen? Nice to meet you... I'm Nicolai, but you can call me Nic." He winked cockily just as Dante kicked him again, making him wince. "Cool it, Casanova." Rox smiled and nodded at the pair. "I'm Rox, nice to meetcha too. Look guys, can we hit the sack soon? I'm tired and we have class early... c'mon now, before Nico gets himself embarrassed again." |

Mode had eaten all the food and Fox camaraderie he could stomach. He pushed his tray away and stood. "Let's." He studiously ignored Dante's table. Swede and some other girl he didn't know were laughing and joking with one another...but there was a boy there too, a boy who managed to sneak in an appreciative glance in Dante's direction while the others were distracted. He turned to Kat and smiled tightly. "Now." He left the mess hall with her, walking gracefully, ignoring the fresh stir this created. |

Dante laughed outright once Helen and Castor left, smirking at Nic's obvious disbelief. "Haha, Nico, someone got shot down by a girl.... oooh, betcha that stings, eh?" Rox snorted derisively, Swede laying her head down into folded arms on the table as she giggled. Nic glared at them all, pushing Sergei with him from the table. "We're going, bro, since these little girls are being bitches." The three continued to snicker as Nic stormed from the mess hall, a bumbling Sergei at his side. "Nice eatin' with ya, Nico, and nice seein' ya again Serg!" Sergei turned around with a timid smile, then followed his angry older brother toward the barracks. Rox suddenly yawned, patting Swede on the back as the girl looked up with red eyes. "Got him that time, didn't we? Such a flyboy he thinks he is, a killa with the ladies!" Dante pulled her tray and stood, her friends following. "C'mon, we need sleep, I heard that Leiutenant Markson was going to..." Their voices trailed off as they dumped their trays and departed for their respective quads, muted laughter as they joked. |

Helen and Castor walked into the mess hall. It wasn't nearly as full as it had been for dinner the other night, but there were still a fair amount of people there. She went through the line, her legs feeling better after walking for a bit. They sat down and she nibbled on her eggs. She was starving, but she didn't feel like she could hold still for more than a few minutes. "Hey Cas, I know there's the game arena, hours of fun there... but what else is there to do around this place?" She had time before her navigation class, and she intended on spending it with Cas, preferebly not just wandering around. |

He was hungry too, and ate well until she asked him what else there was to do. "Well, there's the Library. If you haven't been in there before, it's huge, lots of reference material on our spacecraft and stuff. And the Observatory. Hey...have you seen that yet? It's pretty cool, and they serve sodas and stuff up there." He smiled at her hopefully. |

Helen finished her eggs up quickly, and waited till he was done. "No, actually, I haven't been much of anywhere around here yet. Can you show the Observatory to me? I'd probably get lost looking for it, and we all know how dangerous of a place this is for a girl to be wandering around alone." She chuckled a little and finished off her juice. |

Mode followed Kat into the mess hall, her coppery curls bouncing in front of him all the way. He didn't know who Zion was, but the way Ryan's eyes had dilated, he imagined she was probably wise to flee as she did. He didn't think he'd have a problem with Ryan alone, but there were three other Jaydes in there. They had a reputation, even in Charybdis. He didn't want anything to do with them. His Kitten did know how to pick them. He filled his tray and picked a seat near the back. Kat was practically vibrating, inhaling her food and waiting for him impatiently. He took his time anyway, smirking at her discomfort. "You got somewhere to be tonight, Kitten?" |

Unable to hide her anxious annoyance at Mode's deliberately slow demeanor, Kat continued to flick her gaze around the room warily, constantly moving her eyes in an attempt to watch for Ryan or his Jaydes. She knew her last comment had stepped over the boundary, and with a bizarre mixture of predatory anticipation and outright fear, she hopped from her seat and smirked nastily at Mode. "I'm going back to my bed. If you'd like to join me, do so at your own leisurely pace." Kat dumped her tray, moving with a tense readiness obvious in her manner as she stalked from the mess hall. No sign of her enemies, but without letting down her guard, she traversed the corridors in desperate search for the safety of her room. |

Her stomach still felt too fluttery to tolerate much food, but Dante filled her tray, determined to eat at least part of her meal. She hadn't eaten at all yet today, but she was far too flustered to notice her hunger anymore. Carrying her plates carefully, she made her way toward a far secluded table, seating herself. She picked at her food, more pushing it around idly on her plate with her fork than anything else. Leaning on one elbow, chin propped in her hands and eyes roaming around the mess hall, Dante sat and worried with a little twinge of uncertainty as she waited for Donovan to find her. |

Rox knew that Nicolai would be searching for Dante too, so it was a bit like a competition, to see who could find the girl first before the other got to her and started their version of the story. And so she was scouring the school, systematically weaving her way through the corridors, when she entered the mess hall and spotted Dante seated by herself at a far table. Seated alone, and looking very, very flushed. A grin started to creep across her face, but she fought it down, keeping her expression neutral and friendly as she approached the girl. Dante glanced up, as if expecting someone, startled flash of surprise and recognition in her violet eyes as she smiled shyly. Wait. Violet? Rox knew Dante way back at BattleSchool, before her battles with Nathan, and that light amethyst was the exact shade she used to carry, not the cold silvery ice she'd grown following the fight. Interesting. Very interesting. Without waiting for permission, Rox slid onto the seat beside Dante, a chummy grin on her face as she nudged the girl knowingly. She flushed, averting her eyes, and Rox almost fell out of seat with amazement. Something must have happened, something big. Usually Dante would give back as good as she got, that ice responding with sarcastic comebacks, but she was actually blushing. Rox had the feeling that it had something to do with one of the twins... "So where ya been all day, Jéli? We been lookin' for ya all over, me 'n' Nene thought you might wanna go shoot up some greens later on in the game room. Whaddya say? Looks like you're done eatin' to me, wanna go find Swede and start shootin?" Dante only shook her head silently, flushing more. Great. She hadn't wanted to leave Donovan in the first place, was waiting here patiently for him, when Rox of all people showed up. Who was next? Nicolai. Damnit. She really shouldn't have even thought that, because out of the corner of her eye she spotted him entering the mess hall, looking around and frowning as he noticed them. Sighing, Dante glanced toward Rox. "I'm waiting for someone, but it looks like Nicolai found us first." She didn't expect Rox's angry hiss or the look she shot her. "He's being a jackass. Let's ignore him." There was no time for further talk as Nicolai stalked up and sat down heavily, frowning in response to Rox's glare before turning to face her. "Hi, Anjélice." |

The moment Nicolai saw Dante seated in the mess hall, with Rox beside her, he began to curse at himself once more. Goddamnit Roxy, stupid bitch... Dante's going to find herself broken by one of those jackass twins and withdraw from everyone again. After you knew I claimed her first, too, we even had a fucking bet, and look what you did. Shit shit shit... "Hi, Anjélice." He slid onto the seat opposite the pair, frowning severely as Rox gave him a nasty glare, then turning to look at Dante. She gave him a small smile, a secret smile that he knew all too well, and he kicked Rox hard under the table, ignoring her painful hiss as he kept his gaze trained on Dante. "Hi, Nicolai." "I haven't seen you all day... what have you been up to? Just finish eating? Maybe we could go to the observatory, talk a little, eh?" She flushed slightly and glanced away, shaking her head. "Just went to class, walked around. Um, not done eating yet." Rox smirked pointedly at Nicolai before patting Dante on the shoulder. "She's waiting for someone, and we were talking until you showed up, flashboy." His eyes narrowed at her then, a calculated glare before turning to watch Dante once more, his voice strained and falsely casual. "Oh, really... who're you waiting for, Jélize?" "Donovan." She wasn't quite sure what was going on between the two, but she certainly didn't appreciate their fake cheeriness, their sudden interest in what she was doing. This seemed... almost planned, and she knew that something was going on. Dante didn't like being the target when she didn't even understand the hunt. "Why this sudden interest in..." But Rox interrupted before she was even finished speaking. "Oh, Donovan! I know him, such a sweetheart. Isn't that right, Nicolai? Is he coming here to meet you, Jéli? Maybe we can all stay around; I haven't gotten a chance to see him forever!" She returned the favor to Nicolai, kicking his shin sharply, smirking again as he winced. "Of course, I don't think Nico really likes Don very much... didn't he steal your girlfriend once, flyman?" "I don't know what you're talking about, Roxinne." Nicolai managed to force out from between gritted teeth, shooting her a warning glance, then smiling tightly at Dante. "How did you manage to meet Casanova Donovan, eh, Jélize?" It was Rox's turn to glare menacingly in his direction, neither really noticing the sudden flash of frightened confusion on Dante's face. "We just... met. What do you mean, Casanova Donovan? He seemed nice to me." "Oh, don't worry, he is! He's such a darling, Jéli, a perfect gentleman... unlike Mishkin here. At least Donovan knows how to treat a woman, eh, Nico?" Dante glanced uncertainly at them both, unsure of what had spurned this sudden angry spat. "Woman? That's what we're calling ourselves these days, Roxinne? Dominic call you that too? Or do both of them call you that?" His innuendo tore a hiss from Roxinne, but Dante didn't quite understand what he was getting at, her eyes slowly freezing back to quicksilver as unwilling realization stabbed at her. It was with only half-hearted attention that she listened to Rox's words. "Just jealous, Nico darlin' that you can't handle so much? Or is it lack of that's gettin' you now? I told you; lost two. Now fuck off and leave us alone." "Hey, I'm the one trying to be the nice guy here, not you, little hapa geisha. Don't listen to her, whatever she tries to tell you, Anjélice. Those Japanese are notorious for lying, especially the half kind who don't know when to keep their mouths shut. You two have a good night." Nicolai restrained himself from slapping Roxy, barely managing to stand from the table and stalk away, cursing quietly to himself as he went. Rox watched him go, then turned to smile brightly at Dante. "So where were we?" |

Donovan waited until Nicolai stormed off before attempting to approach the table. He'd heard the exchange, of course; everyone within a twenty foot radius had heard it, but almost everyone else was indifferent. Don approached the table slowly, meeting Dante's eyes with his own. He nodded to Rox; it was automatic, really. He'd known her too long on too familiar a basis to try to ignore her. His eyes shifted back to Dante's and his heart sank as he saw the quicksilver had returned to her eyes. Whatever he'd missed of Nicolai and Rox screaming at each other she'd obviously caught. He sat down across from them almost hesitantly, eyes softening to twilight as he looked over Dante's face, searching for some of the affection he'd seen so recently. Amazingly, a thread of it was still there, but it was tainted with hurt. He had to speak to her now, to get this over with before she heard anything else. "Heyo Rox...Dante." The silver eyes shimmered violet for a moment, and he melted a little further. |

"Donovan! It's been such a long time... how're you doing, sweetheart?" Rox was enthusiastically friendly, hiding her anger and disdain behind an overexuberant smile. He had given her only a short nod, and that rankled at her too. He'd been hers first, and that his eyes were trained solely on Dante didn't escape her notice. Under the table, she dug her fingernails into her palm, still grinning broadly at the pair. Dante, however, wasn't quite so receptive. Realization had slowly crept past her happiness, setting in insidiously amongst her affection, and when Donovan appeared to sit in front of her, she wasn't quite sure what to believe. She hated to think anything bad of him, but whether that was due to his obvious affection for her, or her own reluctance to discover she'd been tricked again, remained uncertain. She didn't know what to say, and so remained silent, swirling silver eyes beginning to melt to hurt violet as she watched him. |

"Rox, can you excuse us? Dante...walk with me, dearest." He couldn't keep a little of his nervousness from slipping into his tone. Dante was slowly pulling away from him. He could feel it. He had to keep her pliable, at least long enough to hear his side, before he could conscience letting her slip away. He stood and offered his hand. |

Rox was too amazed to even say a word, barely managing a nod as Donovan stood, extending a hand to Dante, calling her dearest. Maybe she'd read Dante all wrong, but she had been certain that the man had already... had his way. And yet, here he was, continuing to use that charm with her? Something was very, very wrong. Dante was a little uncertain as she glanced toward Rox, noticing the veiled shock on the girl's face. She froze a little more, ice creeping slowly even as she tried to fight it down, and it was with reluctance and hesitane that she finally slipped her hand into Donovan's, letting him lead her from the mess hall. |

last updated at May 05, 2001 10:05 a.m. (2 times) They'd been in this place only a matter of hours and already Gabe was at home. Already Gabe knew the school's layout; already they had explored its corridors quite thoroughly. They had seen the Game Arena, with its lights and sounds, its vibrant energy coursing through the air as students tested themselves, tested their limits, against their peers. They had visited the library, with its shelves and shelves of books all calling to Gabe, willing him to read them all. They had been to the Observatory, with its beautiful starscape stretching over their heads forever. They had even found a little place to be their Place, their sanctuary, their escape from the world. A place where they could play chess, where they could talk, where they could be the selves they hid from the rest of the world, the selves they only let each other see. And most importantly, Sol was here to share all this with him. Same Quad, same Cell; the powers that be were conspiring in their favor again. They would have been together anyway, of course; even if they wore different uniforms, even if they slept in separate rooms, they would still have spent all their free time together, still would have played chess together and taken their meals together and if either's commander or fellow quadmates had had any problems with that, then so be it. But they didn't have to deal with any of that at all. It was all taken care of. Someone with authority was looking out for them. These were his thoughts as Gabe and Sol got their food and seated themselves in an relatively empty corner of the room. A few other students in various uniforms glanced up as they sat, and nodded greetings. "Greens?" one asked. It was Sol that answered; she was generally the one that did the talking, because Gabe was content to completely ignore most other students, whether Sol did his talking for him or not. Gabe wasn't really listening to her dialogue with the older student; it was fairly standardized stuff. She generally answered enough of their questions to make sure she and Gabe weren't going to make any enemies, and no more. Gabe was thinking about Bryant, and the meeting earlier that day. Someone with authority. Headmaster of Command School was certainly a position with authority. If he wanted them to be kept together, then chances were that it would get done. In fact . . . Gabe was thinking of a few more examples of convenient intervention from the past when Sol's voice called him back. "Not hungry?" Gabe realized that he'd not yet touched his food. Sol had already started into hers. She had a slightly worried statement on his face. Apparently she took his preoccupation as a bad sign. Gabe did not smile, exactly. His face did not seem to move at all. And yet there was a change in his eyes, and that change seemed to affect his entire face. No one could have noticed it but Sol, of course; no one could read him like she could. But for her, he knew that it would say just as much as any reassuring smile could. It was like emotions in code; they could send messages to each other without anyone else knowing they were communicating at all. Gabe liked that. They ate in silence. Gabe quickly caught back up with her, and finished his meal before she did, as usual. And as usualy, he waited for her to be finished, withough even seeming to be waiting; it was like he was just there, because there was as good as anywhere else. She finished at her own leisure, and together they rose in synch, and left the mess. |

last updated at May 08, 2001 12:55 p.m. (1 times) Kyle walked with his tray over to a table that sat facing the door that he thought most students would come in by. He was one of the first one's there. It wasn't quite noon yet so he had missed the crowd. Just as well, he had skipped breakfast. He ate his food leaving the only some jello type stuff on the corner of his tray. He wasn't much on dessert and the small amount they offered here was easily passed up. He pushed his tray out from him and laid the old book in front of him. Its dark brown leather contrasting heavily with the light table top. He opened up the cover to reveal the note his grandfather's grandfather had written in it. He had no idea what it meant as it too was in some oriental language like the cover. Kyle's grandfather had said it was written to his grandmother. Kyle had often pondered how someone in his family had ever known that language. It was something to do with the Second World War he was told. Turning the next page he could recognize the words. The rest of the book was in stark. It never made much since but it did seem like a rough translation. It was about a young man in the east most partin Asia. The man's struggle with honor and martial arts made the story. It was the reason Kyle had first gotten into martial arts. It wasn't a violent fighting sport. It had more to do with peace. When he found the blank space in his mind his instructor had always told him about he was at peace. Kyle shook his head. He turned another page and started to read. |

Sue walked into the mess, a little bored. The classes here were pretty much just as boring as the ones in battleschool. She needed something to do, someone to talk to. A smile creeped onto her face as she spotted Kyle. Sitting alone at a table... reading. She went through the lunchline quickly, and eased down next to him. He bearly seemed to notice her as he was engrossed in his book. She leaned over and started reading over his shoulder a bit, until he noticed her and glanced up. She smiled happily. "What's a handsome guy doing sitting by himself over in the corner? Hmmm?" She turned to her food and forked a few pieces of what she could only guess as meat into her mouth. |

Kyle noticed without glancing up that someone took the sit right next to him. He noticed who it was when she started playfully reading over his shoulder. He closed the book and turned toward her. As she started to eat. "Trying to read in peace," he said in a pretended annoyed voice and a heavy sigh. He eyed her with a smile. He could tell she had been up and about. "I don't start classes until tomorrow so I was a little bored. Early lunch," he glanced at his empty tray. He slightly nudged her arm while her fork was still over tray and watched the bite of food topple back onto the tray. He gave an innocent smile in response to her playful glare. "You better have coordination a little more threatening than that if Griffin is going to hold on to second." |

Much better mood than he was in last night... She glanced down as the food fell from her fork, doing her best too look cresfallen about it. She stabbed it again and shook it in front of him like she was pointing a finger. "Threatening? We Griffins try to mislead all you other kiddies. Besides, I've got all the cordination i need. Just you wait Kyle Saxon." She winked with a smirk on her face and bit off the piece of food. Digging her fork in for more. |

Kyle scooted back to the seat behind him when she turned toward him with her fork. When she turned back to continue eating he scooted back close straddling the seat facing toward her side. "So, have you heard things about this place?" At her questioning looks he continued, "I over heard these two girls talking earlier... a little older than us. Something about some fights." She looked at him like he was crazy. "No, not fights like at Battle School. I heard some kids have been hurt bad... I mean real bad." |

She turned to him, chewing on her food for a moment while she thought it over. She'd been in some pretty bad fights at battleschool. Broken bones resulted on at least one side. She'd taken some self defense classes after her fight with Spear, but worse than battleschool. She'd never really thought about it. But it did make sense, when you were younger fights were petty little things, when you got older they had more meaning, and fights are more violent when they have a meaning. She swallowed the food and continued to stare at him. She sat there for a minute, silent. "I haven't heard anything... What happened? Any idea?" She could feel deja vu coming on.. all the fights she'd been in... hopefully they wouldn't follow her here... |

"No, they didn't say anything more. I think they helped in the infermary or something," he answered. Kyle watched her eat for a moment as she was in thought. She held herself delicatly. Sue always seemed like a girl. She was tough but, she always had that femine touch to her. Unlike some girls he had seen in space. If their voice was deeper and you were talking to one without seeing her you would never know. He almost smiled thinking about it. He stopped himself. "I don't know, I just thought you maybe had. I was just curious after hearing it." He turned and sat straight facing the table again hoping Sue hadn't noticed he was admiring her.Duh, how would she notice?I am just sitting here. I'm an idiot. He ran his finger along the spine of the book stopping to pick with rough spots in the leather. "You going to show me the sims today?" |

Sue ate a bit more of her food before pushing her tray away and glancing over at Kyle. The sims? She'd almost forgotten that he hadn't been able to visit the game arena yet. "Sure! The sims are a bit more advanced than the ones back at battle school. You wanna go now? Or later?" Sue thought about her "adventures" walking through the school for the last two days. She figured that she had it down. Knowing both the long and short ways around the school. She'd taken Kyle the long way last night.. maybe she'd show him the short way, that is if he didn't know where it was already. |

"Now? Sounds good," he said. Kyle grabbed Sue's tray and put it on top of his to dump them. As they walked together out of the mess Kyle kept thinking about what his commander had said. He had to take out at least three enemy fighters in his first battle or he would be transferred. Not that he had had time to care about Panther but, it just wouldn't look good to other commanders if he was transferred his first day. "I need all the practice I can get," he mumbled too low for Sue to hear. |

With Rye beside her, Swede strolled into the mess hall rather subdued after the morning's discussions between herself, Rox, and Dante. As they entered, they passed a pair of students that seemed familiar; it took a moment for her to recognize Sue, but the tall blonde soldier accompanying her had a face she knew she'd seen before. Oh well. Swede shrugged it off, brushing the long red-streaked spikes from her face as they got into the meal line and retrieved their food. She led them to a far table and slid onto the bench, leaning on her elbows and smiling slightly as Rye sat across from her. The hair fell into her turquoise eyes and she attempted to blow it out of her way, but gave up, poking idly at her food. "Zorree diz morneeng... everyvun zeemz to bee ina bad mood. Yoo haft a goot nightz zleep?" |

"Better than I have in a long time." He smiled at her, while poking at his food a little bit before deciding it was safe to eat. Cafeteria food was the same, no matter where in the universe you were. "Is there anything I can do to help with, um, the bad mood?" Something was wrong, he could almost feel it. Wether he could help or not was something he was determined to find out. He chewed a little bit of his "food", watching Swede. |

She wished there was something he could do to help. As it was, Rox and Dante's collective bad and pensive moods had rubbed off on her, making her feel more subdued and quiet than she usually might. Or than she'd prefer. Swede sighed and shook her head, taking an experimental bite of her meal before wrinkling her nose and resuming her exploration. A long moment as she pushed it around her plate, before she glanced back up at Rye, eyes rather unfocused as she thought. Rox-- now that was a problem. Her friend hadn't mentioned what she had done beyond saying that she'd played with the wrong person, and after reassurances that she was just fine, curtly asked them to drop it. She knew it had something to do with Dominic... that was another topic not yet fully explained, as well as Dante's newest relationship with the other twin, Donovan. So much. And she didn't really understand it all. Swede shrugged a little and gave him a tired half-smile. "Nah, eetz okee... nutteeng yoo coold reallee do to help. Boot we coold go play in zee game arena lataire, zinze lazt time I took you dere, vee had dat... upzet. Neh? Might be foon, vaddya zay?" |

Rye smiled, but his eyes turned cold as he remembered exactly what had happened the day before. Green. . . He shook his head shaking it off. "That sounds like a great idea." He grinned. "I bet I can beat ya in any game there," he joked. In reality, the Game Area sounded like a great idea. It seemed that both he and Swede suddenly needed something to get their minds off little problems. He smiled at her. He still wasn't sure what exactly he was doing. Just play it by ear, everything'll work out. The thought came suddenly to him. He shoved the tray away slightly, food still left on it. His stomach had had enough, and he'ld last with what he'ld gone on. |

She laughed outright at that, a happy giggle that belied her former weariness. "Yoo tink zo, eh? Vell, I eem zee Zcout for my quad... I tink perhapz dat I vill hafta zhow yoo, Ryee dee green, dat yoo are gunna get beet." Her grin widened as she punched him lightly on the shoulder and grabbed her tray, standing suddenly. "Coomon. Letz geet yoor deezgrazefool defeet ovaire vith, hmm?" He smiled and followed suit, the two of them dumping their barely touched meals and walking out of the mess hall together, on their way toward the game arena. See? In a better mood already. Good ol' Rye... |

Seth wandered through the halls where he finally found the mess. Noting that the whole school was mainly built around the commons area he passed through last night on his way from the shuttle bay to his barracks he pushed his way through the double doors into the mess. He was almost eighteen now. His skin was light from years in space which contrasted greatly with his brown hair and dark brown eyes. He was by far the oldest student at Battle School before he graduated. From what he gathered from several officers was that he was being kept around to test up and coming commanders. Only he knew the real reason he was graduated finally. All the pshycologists said it was because there was no more competition. It all started when Dante left. The two had been the best commanders in Battle School. She even seemed to surpass Seth himself. Seth admired everything about her and before long ended up in love with her. Only there was nothing he could do about it. Several years ago something happened that she would never talk about. Seth knew it was the reason he was never able to get close to her. He tried for nearly two years with no success. He didn't understand it. Then she graduated. They had become friends he thought and she even seemed to be more open to him than ever before. He went to sleep one night thinking about her and woke up the next morning to a new commander in Fox. She was gone with not so much as a good bye. After that Seth Battle School wasn't the same. He thought about her every night and the day they would meet again. In his dreams she started to love him too and he couldn't be happier until he awoke. He tried his best to get them to send him to command school. He even went through one of the longest winning streaks most officers had ever seen at Battle School. There wasn't any competition when she left and the older he got the easier it became. Finally, he gave up. Next thing he knew he was being sent here and ever since arriving last night all he could do was think about seeing her again. He went through the line scanning the room while his food was placed on his tray. His eyes fell on a auburn-red head filled with curls. She was facing away from him sitting at a table close to the back next to another girl. It had to be her. His mouth went dry and he almost dropped his tray. A few seconds later he found himself still standing with his tray in hand as if he didn't know where to sit. He swallowed hard started to walk in her direction. As he approached the table he knees seemed to go weak and he tried his best to hide any sign of nervousness. Finally he stood at the tale across from her. "Dante?" |

Dante was beginning to become just a little impatient. She hadn't slept well last night, and Rox's sudden appearance a few hours after lights-out had been especially disruptive to what little rest she had managed to get. The girl had stumbled in, crowing wildly with laughter and unable to speak coherently, and had waken the entire cell. Swede was disgruntled and tackled Rox, shoving her into her bunk and almost smothering her with a pillow to make her be quiet; Sue and the other green had been confused and sleepily interested. God. What she wouldn't have given to be in her own bed. And on top of that, Donovan and Dominic were late. Normally, that wouldn't have irritated her; but Rox wasn't talking, and Pallas had left to go speak to another soldier. Rox just sat with a wide, mischievious grin plastered on her face, but refused to say anything beyond "You'll find out when Dommy gets here." Unwilling curiosity was gnawing at her too, and Dante was more than a little anxious to find out just what had happened to make her friend smile like such an idiot all morning long. She just sighed and pushed the wayward curls from her face, lost in thought until an oddly familiar voice spoke her name almost tentatively. Rox nudged her in the ribs, and Dante glanced up to a tall boy who stood across the table from her. Her eyes silvered as she stared at him for a long moment, trying to place the face, the brown eyes and hair, the slight smile. Seth? It was-- no mistake about it. What a surprise; she had graduated before him, but he still hadn't arrived until now. She would have expected him to be placed here earlier. Oh well... that was the IF's business, but here he was, watching her quietly as she pushed up from the table and gave him a smile, extending her hand. "Well, Commander Seth... it's been some time, hasn't it?" |

Seth started to widen his smile and it quickly faded with any words he had been trying to muster up. After she had left Battle School the only picture he had was what he had burned into his memory. She had grown up. She was everything he remembered but now even more. He straightened his stance when he realized that it might be obvious he was gawking. He fumbled for words, "Yes. Yes it has." He took her hand in his and cussed himself for not wiping his sweaty palms first. "You... you look good," he said with a slight smile. After all the nights dreaming about meeting her again he never planned it like this. For some odd reason he had always thought she was going to run and throw her arms around him. Shaking his head he nodded to the girl Dante was with. |

Don entered just before Dominic, a wide grin still on their faces. Nicolai wasn't at breakfast. How very strange. He and Dom shared and look and then laughed as they turned and scanned the tables for Dante and Roxy. Donovan spotted them first and he and his brother walked towards the table. There was another soldier there Don didn't recognize who looked too old for a green, standing in front of the table and shaking Dante's hand. That was unusual. Donovan and Dominic knew almost everyone on the station that had been there more than six months, by face if not by name, but Don didn't remember seeing this man before. They approached the table and Dante looked up at him with a bright smile, and he returned it. Their visit last night had made him aware anew that this was nothing like his past dalliance. Holding her afterward had been the sweetest part. He'd wanted more than anything to spend the night with her, but with the new greens in his cell it would have been problematical at best, and he'd settled for walking her to the Griffin Quad door where she was staying. He had intended to meet her in the Mess a good ten minutes earlier, but Nicolai's unexpected visitation had delayed him. That brought another sort of grin to his face, and he leaned down and kissed her as he slipped into the seat next to hers. "Good morning, dearest," he said softly, running his eyes over her face slowly before he looked up as if noticing the man who still stood before them for the first time. "Who's your friend?" |

She had been about to reply to Seth's compliment when the twins appeared, Donovan coming to her side, and she flashed him a brilliant grin of affection and happiness. Last night... her cheeks flushed as he gave her a kiss, watching her intently before turning his attention to Seth with a curt nod. "Oh... dearest, this is Seth Taylor. He commanded Eagle when we were at BattleSchool together and I ran Fox. Seth, this is Don--" she was interrupted by a howl of laughter, and the three turned to see Dominic pick up Rox and sling her over his shoulder. She was grinning and giggling, and he was laughing as he winked to Donovan and turned toward the exit. "See you around, bro. Me'n'Roxdoll got some discussin' to do." Rox waved upside down as she was carried away. "Bye bye, Don an' Jéli..." Dante smirked as she watched them go, then gave Donovan's hand a squeeze as she turned back toward Seth. "Where were we? Seth... this is Donovan Creche." |
